Your experience in brief
The two-hour tour will begin with the story of the Two Towers and the ancient road of San Donato, which over the centuries has been brought to life by illustrious families, students, processions and popular festivals, but also by dark episodes, rebellions and feuds. The tours, enriched by lively and intriguing narration, will then lead to the Basilica of San Giacomo Maggiore, home to the famous Bentivoglio Chapel decorated by Francesco Francia and Lorenzo Costa. Here, thanks to the collaboration with Confesercenti, visitors can admire the Traditional Nativity Scene of Bologna, created according to the ancient Petronian tradition by the Nicola Baravelli company.
The Intorno alla Garisenda - Itinerario Oratorio di Santa Cecilia route will take visitors on a journey of discovery of the most important pictorial cycle of the Bolognese Renaissance, the work of masters such as Francesco Francia, Lorenzo Costa and Amico Aspertini.
The Intorno alla Garisenda – Palazzo Magnani itinerary will exceptionally open the doors of a true 16th-century jewel, embellished with frescoes depicting the “Stories of the Foundation of Rome” by the Carracci and masterpieces from the UniCredit Collection of Ancient and Modern Art. The tours will end at Palazzo Pepoli, home to the Museum of the History of Bologna, where important artefacts belonging to the Pepoli family are preserved.
