Description
In the picturesque village of Pieve di Roffeno, stands the ancient Pieve di San Pietro, a rare example of 12th-century rural Romanesque architecture.
Although it was transformed in the Baroque period, it still retains precious original elements: the striking apse in opus quadratum, elegant sculpted capitals, a 14th-century defensive tower and the belfry with the historic Brighenti bells.
During the visit, not only the history of the parish church and the ancient village that surrounds it will be illustrated, but also the role and evolution of parish churches in the mountains, witnesses of faith, culture and architecture over time.
The guided tour is part of the series ‘A journey among villas and castles'.
