Spring is blossoming in Bologna

Updated on 06 March 2026 From Bologna Welcome

In spring, Bologna reveals its sweetest side: parks, gardens and streets are adorned with the first flowers of the season, transforming the city into a veritable hidden garden. From March to June, buds sprout everywhere, offering picturesque views both in the historic centre and outside the city walls.

Whether you are a resident or a visitor, spring in Bologna is an invitation to breathe in the fresh air, walk among the blossoming trees and enjoy the first rays of sunshine. Here are some ideas for discovering the most beautiful places to admire the blossoms, including the city, parks and day trips outside the city.

Discover where to admire spring blooms in Bologna, in parks, streets and squares both inside and outside the historic centre.

Nature in the city: wildflowers

Strolling through Bologna in spring is a pleasure for the eyes and the soul. In the city centre, Via degli Orefici and Via delle Drapperie offer a riot of wild cherry blossoms, with shades ranging from white to pink. Perfect for a quick break, a quick aperitif or a takeaway lunch among the fallen petals.

Continuing towards Via Castiglione, you will find the city's largest green space: the Giardini Margherita. Here you can sit on a bench, jog among the flowering trees or simply enjoy the view, breathing in the fresh spring air.

Among the parks where you can admire the first blooms are the Parco di San Pellegrino, known as ‘Ai 300 scalini’ (The 300 Steps), and the Parco di Villa Ghigi, with its lawns, groves and ancient fruit trees. Here, a stroll becomes a little journey through nature and the hills of Bologna, ideal for families or four-legged friends.

Just outside the city walls, don't miss Villa Angeletti in Bolognina, the Giardini di Lunetta Gamberini near Santo Stefano and the Parco della Chiusa in Casalecchio di Reno.

Outdoor experiences: bulbs and tulipss

If you want to enjoy a more unusual experience, Corticella is home to a little piece of Holland in Bologna: the Tulipark - Tulip Blossom Festival. The largest tulip field in Bologna, with paid admission, is open to young and old alike. Did you know that the experience also includes flower picking?

Due to the still cool weather, flowering may be delayed: keep up to date by consulting the official website

For those who love to get around, with the longer days, renting a City Bike is the best way to discover the city's parks and avenues, without missing a single flower-filled corner.

Seasonal blooms: wisteria

In addition to cherry and plum trees, don't miss the wisteria in bloom, which transforms corners of the city and hills into fragrant, colourful tunnels in spring. Just follow the quietest paths or hidden courtyards to immerse yourself in the spectacle of the season.

Outside Bologna

For those who want to get away for a while, the Bologna area offers perfect springtime excursions:

If you want to experience spring on the move, you can explore the Tuscan-Emilian Apennines along the Via degli Dei or the Via della Lana e della Seta, or enjoy the plains by bike along the Ciclovia del Navile.
