Must-attend autumn exhibitions

An exceptionally varied exhibition season is coming up in autumn, with art events spanning the most diverse styles and periods, from science to photography.
FOTO/INDUSTRIA is the first Biennial in the world dedicated to the photography of Industry and Labour. Now in its 6th edition, it takes place in Bologna from 18 October to 8 Dicember 2023, with 12 exhibitions in 11 historical venues in the city centre and one at MAST.
The exhibition project dedicated to the figure of Giovanni Francesco Barbieri known as Guercino, curated by the Pinacoteca Nazionale di Bologna. Until 11 February 2024, admire more than twenty works to immerse yourself in the different stages of his activity, the reasons for the success of his atelier and his relationship with his clients and most trusted collaborators.
MAST Foundation presents the exhibition Andreas Gursky. Visual Spaces of Today. The exhibition, curated by Urs Stahel together with German Andreas Gursky, is inspired by the acronym MAST - Manifattura di Arti, Sperimentazione e Tecnologia. You have until 7 January 2024 to immerse yourself in this exhibition!
How has the city of Bologna been transformed? Who has photographed the most topical moments in its history? Bologna Fotografata. Persone, luoghi, fotografi (People, places, photographers) is the exhibition that tells the timeline of the city's history through the art of photography, thus stopping in time customs, traditions, urban change and the historical periods that have most marked it.
In an exceptional location, the Sottopasso di Piazza Re Enzo, the exhibition is open until 28 January 2024.
In the splendid Renaissance rooms of Palazzo Pallavicini, the exhibition Vivian Maier - Anthology awaits you until 28 January 2024; an extraordinary exhibition of almost 150 original and Super 8mm photographs by one of the most loved and appreciated photographers of this century. An absolute novelty in Bologna will be the Super 8 vision that will allow you to follow the gaze of Vivian Maier, who began filming street scenes, events and places as early as 1960.
From October 27, 2023 to February 11, 2024 at Palazzo Fava -Palazzo delle Esposizioni, the artist's first anthological exhibition: fifty works from the Concetto Pozzati Archive, some unpublished or not exhibited for some time, including large-format paintings, three-dimensional works and works on paper.
From November 10, 2023 to February 4, 2024, the life and works of Ilario Rossi are on display at Santa Maria della Vita. From a self-portrait from 1929 to a Still Life with Flowers from 1994, the year the artist passed away, the works tell the story of one of the leading artists in post-Morandi Bologna.
The Museo Ottocento Bologna turns the spotlight on the figure of Carlotta Gargalli (Bologna, 1788 - Rome, 1840), the first woman to attend the Accademia di Belle Arti in Bologna at the end of the "Age of Enlightenment." The exhibition reveals the modernity of this artist, who thanks to her talent and determination was able to assert herself in an artistic context at the time almost entirely dominated by men. From 29 September 2023 to 7 January 2024 MAMbo presents the exhibition Architecture and Photography in the Emilia-Romagna countryside. Maura Savini, surveys and projects - Guido Guidi, photographs.
The exhibition is based on the comparison between two different ways of knowing - those of photography and architecture - that aim at the common objective of making comprehensible those built places in which our collective identity resides.

As part of the initiatives around the celebrations of the 500th anniversary of Ulisse Aldrovandi's birth, the "Alessandrini-Ercolani" Collection of Veterinary Pathological and Teratological Anatomy in Ozzano nell'Emilia, proposes - until 31 May 2024 - an exhibition that will accompany the visitor to discover what teratology is and what causes the genesis of the main animal malformations.
