Monday June 15 2026, at 9:00 PM in the Cortile dell’Archiginnasio in Bologna: Quartetto Doré: Mozart, Beethoven and Golijov.
PROGRAM:
- Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart String Quartet No. 14 in G major, K. 387
- Osvaldo Golijov Tenebrae (version for string quartet)
- Ludwig van Beethoven String Quartet in E minor, Op. 59 No. 2 “Razumovsky”
Founded in 2021 in Maastricht and now refining its craft at the Accademia Stauffer, the Quartetto Doré takes its name from the great illustrator of the Divine Comedy. This reference becomes a listening poetics: the four Italian musicians move through shadows and illuminations, darkness and revelation, in a program that brings classicism, modernity, and vision into dialogue.
The transparency of Mozart’s “Spring” Quartet opens the evening. The second of Beethoven’s three “Razumovsky” Quartets expands its horizon: the quartet is no longer a “salon” genre, but a space for thought, treated like an orchestra in scope and complexity. At the center is Tenebrae by Osvaldo Golijov: a work drawn to the melismas of Couperin’s Third Lesson of Tenebrae, which the Argentine composer describes as «music… that sounds like a spaceship orbiting without ever touching the ground».
