Wednesday June 10, 2026 at 8:30 PM at the Auditorium Teatro Manzoni in Bologna: Hengelbrock with youth orchestras: Mozart, Haydn and Beethoven’s Seventh.
PROGRAM:
- Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart Symphony No. 34 in C major, K. 338
- Franz Joseph Haydn Berenice, che fai? cantata for soprano and orchestra Hob. XXIVa:10
- Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart Al desio di chi t’adora aria-rondò for soprano and orchestra K. 577
- Ludwig van Beethoven Symphony No. 7 in A major, Op. 92
The multifaceted creativity of Thomas Hengelbrock – spanning conducting, musicology, and stage direction – has led to the creation of one of the most admired period-instrument orchestras, along with an Academy of excellence for young talents. A true test with no compromises is Beethoven’s Seventh, a whirlwind of rhythm and a constantly shifting architectural form.
The journey leads to Beethoven through Mozart and Haydn: from symphonic Mozart (unspecified) to the operatic Mozart of “Al desio di chi t’adora”, an aria written for a Viennese revival of The Marriage of Figaro in 1789, here entrusted to the highly theatrical voice of Kate Lindsey. Completing the program is Berenice, che fai? by Haydn, a chamber cantata where delicacy and vehemence coexist in the full spirit of Sturm und Drang.
