In the exhibition Books and mud in flooded Romagna, visible in the foyer of MAMbo from 8 August to 24 September 2023, 21 photographs taken by Giovanni Zaffagnini tell the devastating impact of the recent floods in the region of Romagna through books.
Crumpled, swollen, rendered illegible, covered in mud, the volumes made available for photos by the Manfrediana Municipal Library in Faenza, the Fabrizio Trisi Municipal Library in Lugo and the Alfabeta Library in Lugo show us fragility and resilience at the same time. From the images, during the exhibition, a catalog will be produced by Danilo Montanari Editore, with a preface by Marco Sangiorgi.
The sale of the book and photographs intend to make a contribution to the libraries damaged by the flood of May 2023 in Romagna.

Insights
Giovanni Zaffagnini lives and works in Fusignano (Ravenna). From the ethnographic research he completed during the 80s, he moved on to a photography aimed mainly at languages and experimentation, often linked to other forms of expression.
In 1986, based on a project by Gianni Celati, he was one of the curators of the traveling exhibition and of the volume Traversate del Deserto (Ravenna, Essegi Editore); in 2016 he curated the exhibition and the volume Abitare il deserto (Ravenna, Photographic Observatory). He has exhibited his works in personal and collective exhibitions in Italy and abroad. He has published monographs with various publishers including: Charta, Silvana Editoriale, Danilo Montanari, Editrice Quinlan, Pequod Edizioni.
His works are part of the collections of: Bibliothèque Nationale de France, Paris; Canadian Center for Architecture, Montreal; Civic Gallery, Modena; Institute for Cultural Heritage of the Emilia-Romagna Region, Bologna; Italo Zannier Archive, Venice; G. Zaffagnini ethno-photographic collection, Malatestiana Library, Cesena.
