On Wednesday 25 March 2026 at 5.30 pm, the Davia Bargellini Museum will present, for the first time, a work by Marcantonio Franceschini: the sketch for one of the altarpieces for the Church of the Incoronata in Bologna.
Room 6 houses this sketch, on loan from a private collection, which enters into dialogue with the other paintings by Marcantonio Franceschini featured in the exhibition.
It will be an opportunity to explore the figure of one of the most celebrated Bolognese artists of the 18th century and to learn about a little-known episode in the city’s history.
The building housing the altarpiece is the subject of a major training project by the Academy of Fine Arts in Bologna, which is restoring the entire space and the works of art it contains.
The exhibition will remain open to the public until 20 September 2026.
