Donne al centro della storia da cittadine (Women at the Centre of History as Citizens)

From August 26 to September 15, 2026, Youkali APS presents the exhibition “Women at the Centre of History as Citizens”, a project by Tiziana Gualandi, curated and designed by Tiziana Gualandi and Luisa Attimonelli, in collaboration with the Tassinari Clò Library, La Corte di Felsina and Artecittà APS.

The exhibition brings together works by contemporary women artists selected through an open call as part of the Association's programme celebrating the 80th anniversary of women's voting rights in Italy.

The artworks explore the theme of citizenship as gained by women through the right both to vote and to stand for election. Citizenship is presented as a personal and collective struggle, a conquest of freedom, full access to public life, the right to speak in the public arena, and the possibility of electing representatives and being elected. It is also seen as the starting point for further civil and social achievements. At the heart of both history and individual stories, the exhibition places women as political subjects, political bodies and poetic voices.

The exhibition is part of STRA 900 ER – 5th Edition: Women Citizens at the Centre of History, supported by the Emilia-Romagna Region under Regional Law 3/2016.

Programme – August 26

• 6:00 p.m. – Exhibition opening, followed by an inaugural toast.
• 6:00–7:00 p.m. – Music selection curated by Mentalità.
• 7:00 p.m. – Talk: Women Artists in the 20th Century: At Last, a Right, with art historians Anna Rita Delucca and Irene Manente.
• 8:00–9:30 p.m. – DJ set curated by Mentalità.
