On Friday, October 17 at 5:30 PM, the exhibition Crossmedia ’90 – Frequencies from Bologna will open at Millenium Gallery.
The exhibition tells the story of 1990s Bologna — a crossroads of languages (crossmedia), a free and open laboratory where making art meant being an active part of the city’s life. Still marked by the political and cultural ferment of the ’70s and ’80s (Radio Alice, DAMS, politically engaged art), Bologna was beginning to enter a new postmodern era, where ideological tensions gave way to a more fluid and media-driven atmosphere. Open labs were growing, independent non-profit galleries were flourishing, and events were designed specifically to spread frequencies — not only sound-based — from and about Bologna.
During those years, the city became a fertile ground for a vibrant, and perhaps unrepeatable, season of creative freedom, interaction, and cross-pollination of artistic languages. Within the Italian cultural landscape, Bologna stood out as a center for experimentation — an alternative to Milan and Rome.
On display are works by artists Piero Barducci, Paola Bitelli, Gaetano Buttaro, Totò Cariello, Roberta Fanti, and Irene Zangheri.
The exhibition will remain open until October 31.
