The Peasant and Farming Culture Museum, which has been located in Villa Smeraldi since 1973, provides visitors with a unique testimony on work and life in the countryside between the 19th and 20th centuries.
The Museum collections have been put together over time by farmers and former farmers who, by establishing the La Stadura association, have donated over ten thousand objects related to work and life in the Bologna and Emilian countryside between 1750 and 1950. The various sections talk about sharecropping in particular and, among these, the one dedicated to hemp is the most important in Italy.
The Museum is located in the centre of the Villa’s large English landscaped park which has been recently enriched with an apple orchard including 500 trees of ancient and rare varieties which, together with the hemp crop, makes up the “open-air museum” area.
