On the occasion of the 100th anniversary of the First World War, the Museo del Risorgimento in Bologna has set up an exhibit on the Great War as part of the "Storia e Memoria di Bologna”, project. The aim is to give a voice to major and minor protagonists from the period between the Napoleonic Era and the Liberation in 1945. The exhibition displays recently restored propaganda posters from the national loans as well as documents and original items regarding the city of Bologna not usually available to the public: photographs from public and private archives, memories of the “Pantheon dei caduti illustri” created by the Laura Bassi school during the conflict, documents from the Ufficio per notizie alle famiglie dei militari (Office for news to the families of soldiers), the great experience of female volunteers in Bologna and on a national level and much more. At the centre of the exhibition room, there is a totem featuring a 3D model of the Lapidario della Basilica di Santo Stefano as it appeared when it was inaugurated (1925) with the names of the 2,536 fallen from the Bologna municipality engraved on 64 slabs in the cloister.
