Guided tour in National Gallery of Bologna

The National Gallery of Bologna offers a series of tours or family activities to discover the museum's collections.

  The October meeting, part of the ‘Focus in English’ series exploring the collections in depth, centres on the masterpieces of Bolognese painting depicting mythological and pagan subjects held in the Pinacoteca. The tour begins in the 17th century with Guido Reni’s *Ariadne*, an emblem of feminine grace and a precious fragment of a canvas commissioned by the English Crown, and continues with Francesco Albani’s *Venus at Her Toilet*, a theme dear to the Venetian tradition. The 18th century reveals its contrasting facets through Giuseppe Maria Crespi’s ironic and grotesque interpretation of the myth of Leto transforming the peasants of Lycia into frogs, and the Arcadian classicism of Donato Creti (Thetis Immersing Achilles in the Styx and Arcadian Scene).
