Accessibility
Hearing Disabilities
- The entrance does not present any barriers for visitors with hearing impairments. Access and independent visits are facilitated by introductory panels. The museum’s theme is unique—the history of Bologna—and the layout is chronological. Room panels are available to introduce the exhibition, era by era, in a foreign language, translating the content displayed on the panels. Traditional exhibition methods alternate with innovative pathways that use multiple channels and codes.
The language of the explanatory panels requires intermediate language skills. Comprehension is supported by the use of graphics and visual aids, combining images, text, and installations, which together make the content accessible. Visual communication in case of alarm is not provided in the bathrooms or elevator.
Mobility Disabilities and Movement Difficulties
- The museum is largely accessible; however, visitors with reduced mobility may encounter difficulties in the first room (Bologna Etrusca), where an Etruscan street is reconstructed with a very uneven pavement.
