Castel del Rio Chestnut festival

On Sunday 11, 18 and 25 October and Sunday 1 November 2026, Castel del Rio will host the 70th edition of the Sagra del Marrone di Castel del Rio.

This event is not simply an exhibition, but a true celebration dedicated to chestnuts, with local product displays and cultural evenings on the programme. The undisputed stars are the marroni chestnuts, grown in the chestnut groves of the Upper Santerno Valley and protected by the Protected Geographical Indication (PGI) designation. They are served in a variety of recipes both at the stalls set up in the town square and in local restaurants.

Visitors can enjoy traditional specialities, such as “bruciati” and “capaltaz”, as well as innovative dishes created by chefs and restaurateurs who have adapted the distinctive flavours of the marrone chestnut to contemporary tastes.
