Exploring the frontiers of modern medicine, where the ability to prevent diseases merges with the precision of treatments ‘tailored’ to each individual patient. This is the aim of the 11th edition of the Festival of Medical Science (bolognamedicina.it), scheduled to take place in Bologna from 15 to 17 May, under the title ‘The New Healthcare: From Prevention to Precision Medicine’.
Organised by the Carisbo Foundation, which has dedicated this edition to Prof. Fabio Roversi-Monaco (1938–2026), former President of the Foundation, the Festival is held in collaboration with the University of Bologna and transforms the Santa Lucia University Campus and the IRCCS Rizzoli Orthopaedic Institute into a forum for international debate. At the heart of the programme are four Nobel laureates and dozens of leading experts invited to illustrate how basic research translates into clinical applications vital for the future well-being of society. The Festival is divided into two thematic sessions addressing the challenge of ‘New Healthcare’, through eight symposia – opportunities for discussion among experts – introduced by a brief interrogation of an Artificial Intelligence system to test the boundary between technological knowledge and human expertise. The first day, Friday 15 May, is dedicated to prevention; the second session, on Saturday 16 May, focuses on precision medicine, whilst the final day, Sunday 17 May, focuses on personalised surgery.
