On the occasion of ART CITY Bologna 2023, the exhibition Viola! Pablo Echaurren and the metropolitan Indians exhibition, curated by Sara De Chiara.
In 1977, Pablo Echaurren exhibited his "little squares" in Bologna. In the same year, street clashes between students and armed forces reached the height of violence. Following this experience, the artist decided to put his creativity at the service of the counterculture, in order to oppose the cultural power of the ruling classes.
The grid of his little squares loosens up: to the swarming of imagination that has its seed in the "reverse" of the world, to the noise of the street, in the sign of Dada-style displacement.
It is the birth of the "mass avant-garde".
