On Friday, 30 January 2026 at 5:00 pm at Casa Carducci, Unlikely Monuments - In dialogue - Merini / Carducci opens, a solo exhibition by Sonia Lenzi.
Monuments dedicated to women who have played a public role—whether renowned, unknown, or forgotten—are undoubtedly unlikely, as are the spaces in which they are located. Starting from the ongoing series Unlikely Monuments. Excerpt from the catalogue, Sonia Lenzi brings places, represented figures, and viewers into dialogue. In this way, a device for individual and collective imagination and memory is activated, beginning with one or both subjects—the spaces, the unlikely monument—and leading to a rethinking of the modes of inclusion and exclusion from history and the related social differences and inequalities.
The first “In dialogue” by Sonia Lenzi is presented at Casa Carducci, in front of which the monument to Alda Merini is symbolically placed, not far from Leonardo Bistolfi’s monument to Giosuè Carducci.
Merini and Carducci: two personalities and two poets, antithetical, who lived in different eras, confronting opposing ideas of the representation of public memory within the austere spaces of the last residence of the poet of united Italy.
Exhibition curated by Eleonore Grassi for Casa Carducci Contemporanea, promoted by Casa Carducci in collaboration with Museo civico del Risorgimento, Biblioteca Italiana delle Donne, FAF/Centro di Ricerca Fotografia Arte e Femminismi.
The exhibition will remain open until March 29.
