On Monday, May 15, the Academy of Fine Arts of Bologna presents to the public the exhibition The Precision of the Multiple. The Engraving Work of Leon Pericles.
Dedicated to Australia's most important master engraver, Leon Pericles (Meekatharra, 1949), the exhibition aims to recount his technical and artistic research, always in close comparison with the great Italian tradition.
He is distinguished by the engraving work on the plate and the printmaking, procedures characterized by particular rigorousness.
His peculiar method is based on the concept of the limit of faithful reproduction of the matrix: the artist adds objects, watercolors, and manipulates the prints of the print run, transcending their two-dimensionality and making them complex compositions.
The final product might look like a single piece, but on the contrary, there are 100 or 150 identical multiples of the same print run.
