Curated by Matteo Giacomelli, the exhibition RARO – ORIGINALE – D’EPOCA presents a selection of materials from the collections of its own archive at the Spazio e Immagini gallery-studio in Bologna. This is a miscellany that plays between document and artwork, moving through the languages of avant-garde, pop culture, and vernacular traditions. These themes have always characterized the gallery's identity in the perspective of an open horizon for the visual arts.
Photographs, posters, graphics, and drawings related to cinema, circus and theatrical performances, fashion, architecture, and both Italian and international counterculture from the 1950s to the 1980s are on display. The exhibition includes cinema photographs from the 1950s-1970s, particularly stills and portraits. Among them, standout images feature Alain Delon in the film "Three Steps in the Delirium" (1968), a rare photograph from the making of the performative film "Veruschka, Poetry of a Woman" (1971), iconic shots from 1970s Italian cinema, and more.
Fashion photos and contact sheets from the 1950s to the 1980s highlight the Italian style known worldwide, including a dress model by the Sorelle Fontana (1965). The drawings and posters of the counterculture reveal the new ways of being and imagining the world within the international youth culture of the 1960s and 1970s, exploring psychedelia, comics, and sexual freedom.
