To mark the 40th anniversary of the Il Cinema Ritrovato Festival, Biblioteca Salaborsa is hosting a new exhibition from 15 June to 19 December 2026, dedicated to the film posters that have shaped the history of cinema and brought fame to generations of master poster artists.
The selection features some of the must-see titles screening at the Festival and pays tribute to Barbara Stanwyck and Luchino Visconti, as well as to Martin Scorsese, Roger Corman, Mel Brooks, and Richard Brooks, whose work is celebrated in the Festival’s major restoration section. The posters on display, preserved by the Cineteca di Bologna, come largely from the Maurizio Baroni Collection. Baroni was a passionate collector and scholar whose efforts were instrumental in rediscovering and documenting the history and careers of the great painters of Italian film posters. Additional works come from the Italian Hand-Painted Film Poster Archive Movie.it, with which the Cineteca has developed a partnership in recePittori di Cinema (Cinema Painters) - 2026nt years.
These initiatives share a common goal: to recover, preserve, and promote the works of this uniquely Italian art form, admired and appreciated throughout the world.
The exhibition can be visited in the Piazza Coperta during the library's opening hours.
