Bologna
The exhibition of Casa Saraceni presents antique and valuable pharmacy vases dating back to the seventeenth century, which survived the bombardment that hit the Ospedale Maggiore (Maggiore Hospital) during the Second World War. Further valuable vases on display are those owned by the historical pharmacies Toschi and San Paolo in Bologna and the Immacolata in Pieve di Cento. Moreover, from the Collections of Art and History of the Carisbo Foundation, the dipinto Farmacia (Pharmacy painting) depicting animals will be exposed. The painting was attributed to the Bolognese painter Antonio Beccadelli (1718-1803) and dated around 1750: a clear allegorical composition characterised by a sharp and caricatural spirit in which the author depicts various animals, engaged in medical and pharmacological affairs. In the years, in fact, when the Institute of Sciences was established and the most advanced scientific research was conducted away from the University boundaries, the author seems to stage a critique of the academic university community, which has become fossilised. Seven conferences complete the exhibition programme. More information on the website www.fondazionecarisbo.it/mostra-casa-saraceni-vasi-della-vita-storia-e-attualita-delle-piante-officinali/
