From May 20 to June 20, the MAURIZIO NOBILE FINE ART gallery will host an exhibition under the banner of Great Names and Great Masterpieces.
Among the works to be presented is an extraordinary sanguine sheet by Guercino, whose talent and quality were celebrated in the recently concluded exhibition at the Scuderie del Quirinale. The sheet, unpublished and datable to 1635-1640, depicts a study for the figure of a Magyar king. Although it is not related to a known painting by the artist, it is probably a repertory study, an exercise in composition with a view to an opera commission or an idea to be translated into print; an elegant and refined drawing, in which the great painter's sublime qualities as a colorist are well captured.
Of particular interest is the enigmatic, as much as bewitching, canvas by the rare and refined Lucchese painter Pietro Paolini (1603-1681), depicting an Allegorical Female Portrait.
Again, alongside these works, it will be possible to admire some recent creations by Catalan artist Joan Crous in dialogue with the exhibition space and his intense research between form, light and matter.
