Closing my eyes darkness can't see me . Act II

On Thursday, January 23, at 6:00 PM, the exhibition Se chiudo gli occhi il buio non mi vede – Act II opens at the Raccolta Lercaro. This is a solo show by Luca Freschi, curated by Niccolò Bonechi, in collaboration with Galleria L’ARIETE artecontemporanea.

Se chiudo gli occhi il buio non mi vede is a two-part project: Act I was inaugurated in November 2024 at Galleria L’ARIETE artecontemporanea, while the second and final act comes to life in the Project Room of the Raccolta Lercaro. The exhibition presents the latest research of the artist through a series of works, all created in ceramic terracotta, many of which were specifically made for this occasion and for the space itself.

Luca Freschi explores themes of vanitas, inner depth, and memento mori. Using the technique of casting, he works on the decomposition and recomposition of elements that inhabit both his artistic and personal imagination: classical figures, ancient vases, and cut flowers.

The exhibition setup features sculptural works, both wall-mounted and free-standing, in a non-linear display that highlights the diversity of the artist's work. Visitors will encounter the monumental presence of the Cariatidi, long, vertical accumulations; the sacredness of the new series Fine di Dio, a clear homage to Lucio Fontana; the chaotic fragility of the Pavimenti d'ombra; and the preciousness of the Breviari.

This exhibition is part of ART CITY Bologna 2025, coinciding with ARTEFIERA.

On Thursday, February 6, at 6:00 PM, for the Giovedì della Lercaro series, there will be a guided tour with the artist, followed by a dialogue on the artist's book NEVER ENDING. Giovanni Gardini, Director of Raccolta Lercaro, Giulio Girondi, Publisher of IL RIO, and Fabrizio Binacchi, Head Editor at Rai Vatican, will also be present.

On Saturday, February 8, during the ART CITY White Night, the artist Luca Freschi and curator Niccolò Bonechi will be present for the special opening of the exhibition as part of the art event that involves extended hours for numerous exhibition venues.
