The Fridge - New Year’s Eve at Teatri di Vita

On Wednesday, 31 December 2025, the new year is celebrated at Teatri di Vita in Bologna: artists and spectators, volunteers and diners, moving from the stage to the shared table.

New Year’s Eve begins at 8:00 pm with The Fridge by Copi, a performance by Andrea Adriatico starring Eva Robin’s, which debuted twenty years ago and has been revived for the occasion; at 9:00 pm it is time for the Cucine Popolari to share food, cheer, and solidarity; and finally, a dance floor until the midnight toast and beyond.

One of Copi’s most whirlwind theatrical texts, in which his themes and obsessions are distilled, beginning with undefined genders, set against the backdrop of the immeasurable solitude of a woman shut inside her home, who deceives her fears and anxieties by imagining characters who come to visit her, more or less absurd and threatening.

The protagonist is embodied by Eva Robin’s. Ironic, fascinating, cynical: this is how she appears on stage, with a monologue that seems written especially for her, in a dizzying crescendo of words and situations reminiscent of a tragicomic comic strip, like a lysergic trip. Against a hyper-realistic pop backdrop, outlandish sequences unfold in a kaleidoscopic whirlwind that revolves around the improbable appearance of a fridge in the living room of a former fashion model on the boulevard of her twilight years, blending with other characters generated by this nightmare: an unhinged psychoanalyst, a cruel mother, an irreverent maid, a megalomaniac publisher, and a… mouse!

In The Fridge there is all the cynical and biting theatricality of the great Franco-Argentine Copi, who died of AIDS in 1987, famous for the comics of the Seated Woman and for his ability to laugh with scathing irony at the misfortunes and injustices of the human comedy.

Part of the proceeds from the evening will go to the Cucine Popolari to support their work of providing hot meals and opportunities for socialization to those in need.
