Cinema in our heart

The heart of Bologna is once again pulsating with great cinema. In June, the city kicks off a season of films, screenings and festivals ready to thrill the Bolognese and visitors alike. Here are some of the most eagerly awaited festivals:

• Sotto le Stelle del Cinema
• Il Cinema Ritrovato
• Arena Puccini

Biografilm

It starts with the Biografilm Festival from 6 to 16 June: life stories exploring biographies of well-known and lesser-known personalities, delving into significant human experiences.

Between cinemas and evocative open-air locations, this is just the appetiser of summer on the big screen.

Sotto le Stelle del Cinema 

From 16 June onwards, in fact, the extraordinary screenings of Sotto le Stelle del Cinema (Under the Stars of Cinema) will begin, which, as per tradition, will accompany the summer of citizens and visitors on Bologna's long hot evenings. The atmosphere is incredibly magical, the one you breathe in the most beautiful open-air cinema in the world! Films are often subtitled in Italian or English.

Il Cinema Ritrovato

On the other hand, Cinema Ritrovato, now in its XXXIX edition, will be the absolute protagonist in theatres and in Piazza Maggiore from 21 to 29 June. The festival, always curated by the Cineteca di Bologna, is a cinephile's paradise: between restored films and international guests, it always offers great surprises. 

Arena Puccini

If you want to see a film in Italian, there is the Arena Puccini, an open-air cinema popular with the Bolognese. 

From 12 June to 10 September 2025, with screenings starting at 9.45pm.
