Events and initiatives

First in Italy and second in Europe after Seville, Bologna  has been Creative City of Music for UNESCO since 2006. The prestigious award is based on the past excellences and the present patrimony.

Bologna is today a city of extraordinary vitality where, in addition to a daily and widespread musical proposal, some excellences stand out thus confirming its leadership in the national and international scenery.

Cinema has another leading role in Bologna cultural life, also thanks to the presence of one of the most prestigious international institutions: the Bologna Film Library (La Cineteca).

Within the field of publishing and art, reknown international events recur each year, in addition to many festivals that deepen and diffuse contemporary arts and languages.

Finally, among the great events and in addition to the programme of summer initiatives of the Comune di Bologna, is New Year's Eve Party in Piazza Maggiore, with the traditional midnight burning of” the Vecchione” (a puppet symbol of the old year) to welcome the new year.
