Giro d'Italia, changes to the vehicle circulation on the days of the event

The 102nd edition of the Giro d'Italia, organised by RCS Sport, will start from Bologna, where the first and second stages will take place on Saturday 11th and Sunday 12th May.

The first stage, scheduled for the afternoon of Saturday 11th May, is a city time trial that will start from via Rizzoli and end at the Sanctuary of San Luca.

The second stage, from Bologna to Fucecchio, includes the zero kilometre in Casalecchio di Reno, where the athletes will arrive from Piazza Maggiore.

To allow the event to run smoothly, the Municipality's mobility sector has issued an ordinance that regulates the circulation and parking in the areas affected by the event. Transit and parking bans apply to all vehicles including motorcycles, mopeds and bicycles.


Giro d'Italia, what happens to the vehicle circulation

 

T days 11-12th May - will be anticipated by 8 hours compared to the usual timetable: the establishment of the pedestrian area will start at 1 am on Saturday 11th May instead of 9 am as usual. From 8 pm on Friday 10th May to 9 am on Saturday 11th May no transit of vehicles as well as the forced removal of parked cars (except for law enforcement and first aid vehicles) will apply to Piazza Re Enzo, Piazza Maggiore, via dell'Archiginnasio, Piazza Galvani and via Indipendenza (between via Augusto Righi and via Rizzoli/Ugo Bassi).


Monday 6th May 2019

  • From 0 am on Monday 6th May to 12 pm on Sunday 12th May: the forced removal of parked cars will apply to via Giorgio Bassani (both sides) and via Insolera (both sides, from via Bassani to via Cesare Masina). Space will be destined for the operational vehicles at the service of the Giro d'Italia in the streets around the area of Piazza Liber Paradisus.

 

Thursday 9th May 2019

  • Parking and circulation bans (for all vehicles including motorcycles, mopeds and bicycles)

From 6 to 12 pm on Thursday 9th May, on the occasion of the presentation of the teams of the Giro d'Italia in Piazza Maggiore*, a ban regarding the transit of vehicles as well as the forced removal of parked cars will be in force in Piazza Re Enzo, Piazza Maggiore, via dell' Archiginnasio, Piazza Galvani. The forced removal of parked cars will apply in Piazza Roosevelt, except for vehicles operating at the service of the Giro. In the same hours, the transit of vehicles will be prohibited in Piazza Re Enzo, Piazza Maggiore, via dell' Archiginnasio, Piazza Galvani.

*The event of May 9 in Piazza Maggiore: the access to the square will be free from 8pm (until the square fills up). The show begins at 9:30pm

Piazza Otto Agosto: from 0 am to 12 pm (entire day) the forced removal of parked cars will involve the whole square, except for the official vehicles following the Giro d'Italia.


Friday 10th May 2019

  • Parking bans (for all vehicles including motorcycles, mopeds and bicycles)

From 2 pm on Friday 10th May to 9 pm on Saturday 11th May the forced removal of parked cars will apply to the streets of: via Ugo Bassi (from via Cesare Battisti to via Marconi), Piazza di Porta San Felice, via Sabotino, via Tolmino, via Gandhi, via Saragat (from the Romagnoli roundabout to via della Barca), via della Barca (from viale Saragat to via Andrea Costa), via Andrea Costa (from via della Barca to via Porrettana), via Porrettana, via San Luca.

From 2 pm on Friday 10th May to 11:30 pm on Saturday 11th May the forced removal of parked cars will apply to the following streets: via San Luca, via Monte Albano (from Piazzale Nasalli Rocca to the access road at number 6), Largo Nasalli Rocca, via de Coubertin, piazza della Pace, via Monte Albano (parking lot near number 7). These routes will be used for the logistics and will host the structures relating to the event: access to the official vehicles following the Giro d'Italia is permitted.

From 2 pm on Friday 10th May to 1 pm on Sunday 12th May the forced removal of parked cars will apply to the entire roadway of via San Felice.

  • Vehicle transit ban (for all vehicles including motorcycles, mopeds and bicycles)

Via de Coubertin (on the entire roadway) and piazza della Pace: vehicle transit ban (no circulation) from 2 pm on Friday 10th May to 11:30 pm on Saturday 11th May. Access is permitted to the official vehicles following the Giro d'Italia as well as to residents reaching their homes.

Via Monte Albano, Largo Nasalli Rocca, via San Luca and car park near street number 7 in via Monte Albano: vehicle transit ban from 2 pm on Friday 10th May to 11:30 pm on Saturday 11th May. Access is permitted to the official vehicles following the Giro d'Italia as well as to residents reaching their homes.


Saturday 11th May 2019

Giro d’Italia: the track will have barriers near the start (Via Rizzoli) and the finish line (San Luca). Along the route people can assist on the sides of the road, without crossing. 240 volounteers of Civil Protection will be located along the way.

  • Vehicle transit ban (for all vehicles including motorcycles, mopeds and bicycles)

From 11:30 am to 8:30 pm transit will be prohibited in: via Ugo Bassi (from via Battisti to via Marconi), via San Felice, Piazza di Porta San Felice, viale Vicini, via Sabotino, via Tolmino, viale Gandhi, the Romagnoli roundabout, viale Saragat, via della Barca (from viale Saragat and via Andrea Costa), via Andrea Costa (from via della Barca to via Porrettana), via Porrettana, via San Luca, Piazzale Nasalli Rocca, via Monte Albano. No transit will also apply to all the side streets having their only way of access in the streets that will remain closed.

Also from 11:30 am to 8:30 pm all private and driving accesses that are along the route of the bicycle race and in the side streets that do not have alternative ways of access, cannot be used in the time-frame closed for transit.

Access is only permitted to the RCS Sport service vehicles, first aid vehicles and public safety vehicles.

  • Vehicle transit ban (for all vehicles including motorcycles, mopeds and bicycles)

Via di Casaglia (from via Monte Albano to via Saragozza): vehicle transit ban from 6 am to 9 pm on Saturday 11th May. Access is permitted to the official vehicles following the Giro d'Italia as well as to residents reaching their homes.

From 11.30 am to 8.30 pm on Saturday 11th May the following roads will be alternating one-way: Via Saragat (from via della Filanda to via Lorenzetti), via Canaletto, via della Certosa (from street number 32 to via dell'Abate).

  • Parking bans (for all vehicles including motorcycles, mopeds and bicycles)

Piazza Otto Agosto: from 0 am to 12 pm (entire day) the forced removal of parked cars will involve the whole square, except for the official vehicles following the Giro d'Italia. The Piazzola market will be suspended.

Parking adjacent to Parco Cavaioni: the forced removal of parked cars will apply from 7 am to 11:30 pm on Saturday 11th May.


Sunday 12th May 2019

  • Vehicle transit ban (for all vehicles including motorcycles, mopeds and bicycles)

From 10 to 12:30 am vehicle transit will be prohibited in: via Ugo Bassi (from via Battisti to via Marconi), via San Felice, Piazza di Porta San Felice, viale Vicini, via Saragozza (from Piazza di Porta Saragozza to via Porrettana), via Porrettana, via don Sturzo. No transit will also apply to all the side streets having their only way of access in the streets that will remain closed.

All private and driving accesses that are along the route of the bicycle race and in the side streets that do not have alternative ways of access, cannot be used in the time-frame closed for transit.

Access is only permitted to the RCS Sport service vehicles, first aid vehicles and public safety vehicles.

Buses

The changes in vehicle circulation, as established by the ordinance of the Municipality, will also involve the routes and stops of the urban and extra-urban bus lines. Details on all the detours are given on the Tper website (in Italian only).


Waste containers

Hera will move the bins and bells from the route of the bicycle race from 6 pm on Friday 10th May to 9 pm on Saturday 11th May, more specifically from: via Rizzoli, via Ugo Bassi, via San Felice, Piazza di Porta San Felice, viale Vicini, via Sabotino, via Tolmino, viale Gandhi, the Romagnoli roundabout, viale Saragat, via della Barca (from viale Saragat to via Andrea Costa), via Andrea Costa (from via della Barca to via Porrettana), via Porrettana, via San Luca, Piazzale Nasalli Rocca. The bins and bells will be moved, instead, from via San Felice from 6 pm on Friday 10th May to 1 pm on Sunday 12th May.
