Villa Balzani, originally a farm
building, is a sober nineteenth-century mansion completely redesigned by the
architect Andrea Balzani in 1860. The oratory, added to the manor in 1797, opens
once every three years for the celebration of the Trinity Sunday.
The park that surrounds
the villa retains some beautiful centuries-old trees, among which a rare
example of of Taxus baccata , and a singular grove with oak species from
all over the world.
The Balzani family has been devoutly
taking care of the park for generations, and in the last decade they held fast
to this tradition by adding a beautiful rose garden, one of the most extensive
rose collections in Italy.
Villa Balzani opens its doors every
year on the occasion of special initiatives carried out by the Municipality of
Zola Predosa, and particularly during May, when the rose garden is blossoming in
all its beauty.
