Palazzo del Monte di Pietà - Palace of the Pawnshop

The Palazzo del Monte di Pietà, in Via Indipendenza, dates back to the 15th century and originally housed the canons from the nearby St. Peter's Cathedral. 

The Monte di San Pietro was founded in the 16th century. The Mount of piety (“Monte di pietà” in Italian) was a non-profit financial institution that provided small-scale loans in exchange for a pledge.
