Via Riva di Reno is so-called for the Reno Canal, which flows below it and was then covered in the post-war period. From there a series of navigable canals started, which then flowed into the Reno river, and from this up to the Po river.
Between Via Riva di Reno and Via Galliera there is the 16th century Church of the Madonna della Pioggia, which houses the Adoration of the shepherds (Adorazione dei pastori) by Agostino Carracci. On Via Riva di Reno we also find the famous Bologna Film Archive (Cineteca di Bologna), located in the former Tobacco Factory.
