Corpus Domini is one of the most popular sanctuaries with the locals. It is also known as Chiesa della Santa as it is home to the body of Saint Catherine of Bologna (Santa Caterina de’ Vigri), who founded the first Clares convent in Bologna. The church was built between 1477 and 1480 by Nicolò Marchionne da Firenze and Francesco Fucci da Doccia. The Renaissance façade is the only remaining feature of that period, as the building was entirely restored in 1687 by G. Giacomo Monti and severely damaged by bombing during the Second World War. Paintings by Franceschini and by Lodovico Carracci as well as the grave of physicist Luigi Galvani and Laura Bassi, a famous scientist during the 18th century, are of particular interest.

The Museum
The Museum is part of the Corpus Domini Church (you can enter it from the second chapel, at the left of the nave).
It was created by the Cardinal Giorgio Gusmini (1855-1921), and inaugurated on the 8th of March 1919. It preserves the seated and holy body of Saint Catherine De' Vigri (1413-1463) and contains some objects owned by the Saint, such as her manuscripts and her paintings.
