Bologna
Originally known as the Church of San Bartolomeo di Reno, the Cathedral of Santa Maria della Poggia is located at the intersection of via Galliera and via Riva di Reno. In the Middle Ages its name derived from its position next to the Reno Canal, which was further buried, while its current name is dedicated to the Vergin della Pioggia, whose panel, considered miraculous, is preserved in the church and depicts a Madonna and Child (Madonna col Bambino). Inside the church consists of a single nave with three side chapels, covered by a frescoed barrel vault. The present works derive from the generous offerings left by the citizens to enrich and thank the noble humanitarian assistance of the church.
