The locality of Farneto is now best known for the homonymous grotto, which was discovered in 1871 by Francesco Orsoni and was the object of important archaeological research. In the 60s Luigi Fantini found some burials dated to the Copper Age those findings are on display at the Archaeological Museum of Bologna. Since 2008 the grotto was re-opened to the public as a result of the work of recovery and safety measures that have freed the entrance, which had been blocked for years by a landslide.
