The MAGI‘900 Art Museum is located in Pieve di Cento, a small town in the Bologna province. It was set up at the end of the 1990s by Giulio Bargellini with the aim of showcasing his collection of artworks, paintings and sculptures and to create an art museum that was also a centre for the documentation, study and promotion of the 20th-century Italian artistic generation.
The first part of the Museum in the old silo was extended a first time between 2005-06 and a second time in 2015 with the construction of a new three-storey building. The Sculpture Garden is located in the outdoor area. The Museum is home to a collection of pieces dedicated to Africa and South America, to Italian Contemporary Figurative Art and to New Realism. Two collections that stand out are the one dedicated to Lutz Ehrenberger and that on the Belle Époque which is based on the topic of female seduction with famous pieces such as The Blue Hat by Boldini as well as practically-unknown ones such as tempera illustrations by Ehrenberger. There is also a wide selection of illustrated magazines.
In addition, the museum develops projects for schools and creative workshops for families.
