The San Pellegrino Retreat was founded in the mid-nineteenth century near Porta Sant'Isaia by the priest Camillo Breventani. His intention was to educate and instruct young girls of the people to work. Over the years, many donations to the institute gave rise to a large artistic heritage including works of art dating from the sixteenth and nineteenth centuries. Since 2011 Emilbanca, through the San Pellegrino Retreat Foundation, has been committed to studying, enhancing and cataloging this immense artistic heritage to make it accessible to all.
The collection is now located at the Bank’s headquarters in Argelato and includes among other works by Lavinia Fontana, Giuseppe Maria Crespi, Nicola Bertuzzi, Sebastiano Ricci, Giovanni Girolamo Bonesi and many others.
