MUSICA ASSOLUTA I Dmitrij Šostakovič (1906-1975) String Quartet No. 1 in C major op. 49 String Quartet No. 2 in A major op. 68 String Quartet No. 3 in F major op. 73
Among the greatest composers of the 20th century, Šostakovič bequeaths a rich production, ranging from piano pieces to symphonies, from lyrical to cinematic compositions. Perhaps his most significant work are the fifteen string Quartets, authentic masterpieces of their genre, dating between 1938 and 1974 and telling a story that goes from World War II to the first signs of Cold War thaw. Musica Insieme has entrusted the complete series of the fifteen Šostakovič Quartets to five young ensembles trained at the "Stauffer" Academy of Cremona. The first three Quartets will be performed by Dàidalos, whose members, all under 20, already performed in the main concert halls.
