Ancient paths and villages amongst the Imola gullies – Foliage Tour

The route starts from the La Tordicella B&B (499 m), from where we’ll set off along ancient tracks through the woods. We’ll walk amongst old cultivated fields and the remains of ancient rural settlements, where traces of a past shaped by daily labour can still be seen, amongst stone walls and structures built with local materials.
 

Following the contour of the mountain, we’ll reach the hamlet of Bigoncio, from where we’ll begin the ascent through rocky outcrops and mixed woodland. The route will gradually lead us towards the ridge, where the Church of Valmaggiore (680 m) stands – a vantage point and the ideal spot for a break, surrounded by sweeping views, history and local tales.
 

From the Church of Valmaggiore, we’ll begin the descent, passing the site of the old abandoned cemetery and continuing towards the road to Chiesuola. We’ll then pass through the hamlet of Pian di Sozzurro (409 m), before climbing gently along the path back to the B&B La Tordicella, where the circular walk ends.
 

A tasting session is planned at the end of the trek; this is optional and can be selected and purchased at the time of booking.
 

THEMATIC INSIGHT

Along the route, there will be a thematic insight into the history of people in the mountains, from the ancient presence of the Celts right through to the events of the Second World War and the partisan struggle.
 

We will retrace the events and testimonies of a region steeped in history, right up to the visit of a Pope to the front line during the Second World War.
 

A journey through memory to discover how these places, once the scene of conflicts and struggles for freedom, have today returned to being spaces of peace and serenity, where the woodland and ancient churches invite reflection and the rediscovery of a deeper connection with nature and the local area.
 

TASTING EXPERIENCE

An experience at the La Tordicella B&B designed to offer a pleasant moment of conviviality, featuring a rich selection of flavours and produce to share, accompanied by a carefully curated selection of drinks.
 

The tasting will be accompanied by a selection including dry Albana, Sangiovese Superiore and Pignoletto Extra Dry, as well as other wines and a choice of chilled non-alcoholic drinks.
 

The star of the tasting will be a generous mixed platter, comprising a selection of cold cuts and cheeses, complemented by small mozzarella balls, fresh cherry tomatoes and olives.
 

All this will be accompanied by piadina, served in generous portions, ideal for complementing and making the most of every item on the platter.
