On the occasion of the Fascination of Plants Day 2026, on Saturday 16 and Sunday 17 May 2026, the Botanical Garden and Herbarium of Bologna opens its doors to the public with a rich program of free activities dedicated to the plant world and pollinating insects.
The theme of the 2026 edition is Nature in the City. Wildflowers and Wild Pollinators: Discovering, Studying and Protecting Them, an invitation to explore the fundamental role of pollinators and the practical actions everyone can take to help protect them.
Researchers from the Plant Reproductive Ecology Laboratory will guide visitors and families in discovering urban biodiversity through talks, workshops, and interactive activities.
The program includes botanical walks dedicated to the flowers most loved by pollinating insects, scientific botanical drawing workshops for teenagers and adults aged 14 and over, and readings for children aged 5 to 10 from the Stories of Endangered Plants series, designed to raise awareness among younger audiences about nature conservation.
Throughout the weekend, from 10:00 AM to 6:00 PM, the Botanical Garden will host open-access stations with no reservation required, featuring microscope observations of flowers and insects, analog and digital games, activities for identifying wild plants and pollinators, insights into the LIFE4Pollinators and BUZZ LIFE projects, and a special photo hunt dedicated to pollinators in action, with small prizes for participants.
