Montovolo has been for centuries a Sacred Mountain, at the center of an area whose history has roots that go back to the most remote times. That the site was the cradle of archaic cults can be felt right from the dirt road that leads from the parking lot to the top, bordered by an intricate Gothic forest. Centuries-old oaks from which hang ribbons of lichens, gnarled chestnuts and rocks dressed in moss, envelop the traveler in a web of arcane shadows and primordial smells, where pagan invocations still seem to echo.
