Mycelial Concert

Based on a graphic score that allows for a broad personal interpretation, the sound performance - created especially for serra madre by Bologna Modulare as part of the perAspera performing arts festival - is inspired by the mycelium, the reticular/rhizomatic apparatus that enables communication in the plant world. - is inspired by the mycelium, the reticular/rhizomatic apparatus that enables communication in the plant world.

Four modular systems are at the centre of the space, united in a single organism, like plants joined by hyphae, imitating the infrastructure whose fruit - the fungus - here is sound. Imagination becomes patch-cord, the score becomes control voltage, the performer becomes module. In this subterranean and persistent exchange of information, the value of what happens far from human perception is enhanced. In the synergetic interactions between performers (and between modular systems), sound objects merge, transform, speak to each other.

The performer emancipates himself from his technological device, in favour of a freer and more radical approach to instrumental behaviour and sound production. The improvisational practice, together with the predisposition to listen, becomes an exercise in coexistence, freedom, dialogue, acceptance, of dynamic collectivity.
