On Monday, September 28, 2026, DAMSLab hosts the concert Water & Spirit.

The Oscar for the score of the film Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon by Ang Lee is now a quarter of a century old, but since then Tan Dun has never stopped composing in an effort to bring East and West into dialogue—his native China and his adopted America, the digital present and a past of millennia-old traditions rooted in the rhythms of nature.

FontanaMIX, an ensemble that has gifted contemporary music with hundreds of world premieres, invites us with Water & Spirit on a journey into this poetics of consonance, where the timbre of traditional Chinese percussion blends with Western luthiery and the sound of water, treated not only as a symbol of life but also as an expressive and “singing” musical instrument.
