Double ribbon-cutting ceremony Sunday 7th April for the “RenVergatellAppenninMontovolo” Fountain made by the great master Luigi Ontani. The initiative, curated by the Municipality of Vergato and by the Vergato Arte association and promoted by Città Metropolitana (Metropolitan City) in collaboration with Bologna Welcome, takes place in Vergato in the heart of theTuscan-Emilian Apennines. The Fountain of Master Luigi Ontani, located in the central Piazza Giovanni XXIII will be inaugurated at 10.30 am. The artist will attend the ceremony together with the institutions. Made of marble and bronze, the work creates a fascinating association between art and territory, recalling the figures of classical mythology. The Faun symbolises the river Reno, the Cupid Love of Art the Vergatello torrent and the majestic Triton represents the Apennines, as the mountain chain holding the water. The Giant is placed on the egg, which refers to the fabulous "Montovolo", spiral circuit originating from the snake "Auroboros". The “MuseOntani” will be inaugurated at 11.30 am in the ground floor hall of the Palazzo Comunale in piazza Capitani della Montagna. It will be possible to admire a collection of the Master’s works as well as the stained glass windows in the Sala del Consiglio made by Ontani himself. Luigi Ontani was born in Vergato and divided his artistic skills between painting, sculpture and photography. After studying at the Academy of Fine Arts in Bologna, he began exhibiting at the end of the '60s and '70s with the "tableaux vivants", live performances and as a "pose" of life-size photographs, as a citation of the Museum and of the Commedia dell'Arte. Then, through the mask, he makes works, with the collaboration of virtuous artisans of different materials, which have roots in the applied ornamental art. He has exhibited in several museums and national and international exhibition spaces, from the Guggenheim (New York) to the Kunstverein (Frankfurt), the SMAK (Ghent), the Kunsthalle (Berne), Capodimonte (Naples), the Serpentine (London) and in biennials from Venice to Sidney. The last solo exhibition is of 2017, at the San Luca Academy in Rome.
