The exhibition at the International Museum and Library of Music in Bologna from May 11 through Sept. 8 is dedicated to the legendary figure of Antonio “Wandrè” Pioli (Cavriago, 1926-2004), founder in the 1950s of the first electric guitar factory in Italy and inventor of some of the most innovative and experimental models in the world history of this instrument, true works of pop art steeped in futurism, surrealism, metaphysics and abstractionism, still among the most sought after by collectors in every country. Wandrè is an Italian brand known for its eccentricity and experimentalism, at the forefront in the 1960s, thanks to the genius of Antonio Vandrè Pioli, known as Wandrè: artist, entrepreneur, partisan, craftsman and, above all, one of the most innovative luthiers of the last century. Wandrè guitars, referred to as “sound sculptures,” travel the world as unique creatures, far from the conventional models of the time, bringing with them a unique vision. The exhibition presents more than 50 pieces including guitars, basses and double basses, each with its own history and unique personality: iconic pieces that are unrepeatable in shape, color, technique and materials used. The itinerary, contextualized with other works of the artist made from 1970 to the late 1990s, expresses very well the character of Wandrè: pop and at the same time psychedelic, ten years before psychedelia.
