The Women of Kabul. In the eyes of photographer Pino Settanni

The Cirulli Foundation reopens to the public with the new exhibition section Le Donne di Kabul. Nello sguardo del fotografo Pino Settanni (The Women of Kabul. In the eyes of photographer Pino Settanni).

The selection consists of 13 photographs that are part of a larger photographic campaign that Roman photographer Pino Settanni took in 2002 when he was in Afghanistan on behalf of the Italian Army. The photographs, printed by Settanni in his historic studio in Via Ripetta, were digitally processed in 2003 and printed on Kodak Metal Process Lambda paper in a 50 x 70 cm format. The final effect is highly evocative and the pixels, used as sabre-rattles of colour, dilate the female figures in space until they lose their boundaries and become one with the background. The photographer-artist goes beyond visual realism and juxtaposes wind with digital graphic re-elaboration; the female figures are broken up and recomposed in new, deformed and sometimes disturbing forms and require, as the author himself observes, "that the image be looked at carefully".
