“Fragments of Memories” (Frammenti di Memorie), the extensive Sima Shafti personal exhibition curated by Valeria Tassinari and set up in the OPEN BOX space at the MAGI’900 Museum (Museo MAGI’900) as of March 7th is a reflection on female memory, which is accessed through a gate that the artist leaves ajar, an opening on the complexity that surrounds us and that is often rooted in silence.
By inviting us to cross the intimate and unsettling threshold of a hidden garden, the Iranian artist takes us where the enchanting beauty of colours and shapes of her culture of origin do not conceal but actually exalt the presence of dark painful shadows, the restless melancholy of those who do not forget the existence of violence, fatigue, injustice, prevarication and uncertainty about the future.
Deep-seated painting that evokes Persian aromas, precious installations such as antique carpets tied with verses of unintelligible poetry: pieces that settle in the exhibition venue in a different way every time, to tells us about an ever-imminent elsewhere while involving us directly.
