The Arabian Peninsula is often associated, in the popular imagination, with the vastness of the desert. Yet beyond this powerful but partial image lies a far richer history, shaped by coastlines, mountains, oases, maritime routes, mineral resources, settlements, trade, and encounters between diverse communities.
Beyond the Desert invites visitors to explore this complexity, showing how archaeology can reveal the historical depth of a region that has played a central role in the relationships between Asia, Africa and the Mediterranean since antiquity.
The exhibition is organised by the University of Bologna on the occasion of the 59th Seminar for Arabian Studies, one of the leading international conferences dedicated to the study of the Arabian Peninsula.
The exhibition offers visitors the opportunity to discover an archaeological and historical heritage of extraordinary significance.
The exhibition is open from July 20 to August 28, 2026.
