Ivan Dimitrov's nativity scenes return to Bologna with the Nativity 2024 exhibition, which will be inaugurated in the fascinating exhibition space of the "Sala Possati" of "Complesso del Baraccano" on Sunday 8 December 2024.
The exhibition, which will present some unpublished nativity scenes created specifically for the occasion, will fascinate not only collectors of nativity scene art, but all art lovers who will be able to admire the over 300 polychrome terracotta sculptures by the artist, known for having reinterpreted and revived the Bolognese nativity scene art, once flourishing and sought after in the noble houses of the 18th/19th century.
Dimitrov's "story" takes inspiration from the nativity scenes of the classical tradition, presented at the beginning of the journey, and then uses the theme for a broader analysis. The artistic research leads the sculptor to meet the figures and characters in the paintings of the Great Masters of the past, to recreate them by modeling them with clay, and to insert them into majestic settings dedicated from time to time to great artists: thus we find, continuing along the path, his great scenographic interpretations dedicated to Durer, Brueghel, Rubens and Leonardo.
