On Thursday, 29 January 2026 at 6:00 pm, the exhibition Mattia Moreni. The Bologna Retrospective, 1965 opens at MAMbo.
With the opening of the first three exhibitions in Bagnacavallo, Forlì, and Santa Sofia, the major project Mattia Moreni. From Training to “The Last Thrust Before the Great Mutation”—the most extensive ever dedicated to the artist—has already gained full momentum, revealing to the public the strength and contemporary relevance of one of the most original and restless voices of postwar Italian art.
Promoted by the “Associazione Mattia,” curated by Claudio Spadoni and developed across five museum venues between Romagna and Bologna, the project spans forty years of research pursued through a language in constant transformation, always resistant to labels and affiliations.
The journey continues in 2026 at the MAMbo – Museo d'Arte Moderna di Bologna, where the exhibition revisits and reinterprets the celebrated retrospective curated by Francesco Arcangeli in the 1960s, a fundamental chapter in Moreni’s critical history.
The museum thus evokes the major 1965 exhibition originally organized at the Galleria d’Arte Moderna (now MAMbo), which marked the artist’s first solo show in a public institution. The exhibition offers an updated reading of that decisive moment, placing Arcangeli’s vision in dialogue with new perspectives on Moreni’s work.
The exhibition is curated by Pasquale Fameli and Claudio Spadoni, and promoted by MAMbo – Museo d'Arte Moderna di Bologna.
It will remain open to visitors until May 31, 2026.
