Between January and February 2026, on the occasion of ART CITY Bologna, the city hosts an extensive program of exhibitions and events spread across prestigious public and private institutional venues—including Palazzo Pepoli – Museum of the History of Bologna—bringing together numerous contemporary artists in a collective narrative.
The 2026 edition of do ut do, an initiative founded by Alessandra D’Innocenzo in 2012 in support of the Fondazione Hospice MT. Chiantore Seràgnoli of Bologna, is dedicated to the theme of Identity, understood not as an individual assertion but as a plural, relational dimension in constant becoming: a self that exists only through relationship with, and passage through, the other. An identity to be inhabited, rather than declared.
The choice of Palazzo Pepoli for the group exhibition Identity, the Plural Self fully embodies this vision. A site of historical and symbolic stratification, the museum becomes a space for dialogue and coexistence, where differences remain autonomous and, precisely for this reason, generate shared meaning.
On display are works by Victor Fotso Nyie, Geraldina Khatchikian, Fiorenza Pancino, Stefano W. Pasquini, Lorenzo Puglisi, and Giorgia Severi, each presenting a distinct investigation into the theme of identity, addressed through sculpture, painting, installation, multimedia practices, and activism, engaging with memory, transformation, collective imagination, and ecology.
The exhibition will be open to visitors from 4 February to 8 March 2026.
Curated by do ut do.
In collaboration with Fondazione Bologna Welcome, P420, and Galleria BoA Spazio Arte.
